Golden LionGeorge St
See more about this pub on WhatPub, CAMRA's national pub guide.
Very close to the town centre, the pub is a busy free house owned and run by some of its locals. Music is very much the theme with an extensive juke box collection of classic numbers, and it's common for spontaneous dancing and singing to add to the friendly and lively atmosphere. It has active darts and dominoes teams and a pool table in the large single lounge bar where there's also regular live open mic entertainment on Wednesday evenings. Six reasonably priced real ales from local, regional and national breweries and a cider, along with cobs, pork pies. Ploughman's lunches are available during the summer and are replaced by tapas in the winter months.
